FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Your Questions, Answered
I'VE NEVER HAD A MASSAGE AT HOME. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.
Here's a few pointers...
Make sure the house is the right temperature for you.
If you'd like to burn a candle, feel free. (Could I ask that you don't use incense sticks though, as they make me sneeze like crazy.)
I'll need enough space for my massage couch and a little space to be able to move around it.
I bring everything I need with me. (If you are having a pregnancy massage, please have 3/4 pillows handy to help support you.)
I usually show up to an appointment 5-10 minutes early so I can set up and we can start on time. If I'm running late or stuck in traffic, I'll endevour to text you to let you know. There isn't always somewhere for me to pull over though, so it may not always be possible.
You'll generally be expected to undress to your pants for massage. You can keep your bra on if you want to and I'll just unhook it as I need to.
Only the body part I'm working on will be exposed at any given time, you will always be draped appropriately.
Please let me know when booking if there are any issues with parking. Is your road permitted or do you have a designated parking space? Just let me know.
I'M ON MY MOBILE, BUT I CAN'T FIND THE AT-HOME TREATMENTS? HOW DO I BOOK?
If you are trying to book on your mobile, the at-home treatment section can seem a little hidden. If you go to 'online booking' the page will pop up. Near the top it will say 'Blackheath Yoga', click on that and a little drop down menu will appear with 'At-Home Treatments'. Click that and it will take you through to treatments and availability.
CAN I PAY BY CARD OR BANK TRANSFER?
Yes, absolutely. I have a card reader, although if you live in a bit of a dead zone, I may need your wifi password to allow the payment to go through.
If you prefer to pay by bank transfer, bank details are as follows:
Acct Name: Blissful Thinking
Sort code: 09-01-55
Acct No:5097 3680
The bank details won't match for some reason, you can bypass this though.
I'M HAVING A PREGNANCY MASSAGE. DO I NEED ANYTHING SPECIAL?
I bring everything I need to an appointment. With pregnancy massage however, I need some pillows to support you. 4 or 5 normal bed pillows is usually sufficient, but the more the merrier really.
WHY DO I FEEL SICK WHEN I HAVE A PREGNANCY MASSAGE?
First and foremost, this doesn't happen very often, but it does happen. Our bodies are very clever things. You will be reclining at the end of your massage (hence the mountain of pillows requested). Sometimes if you aren't positioned high enough the baby may press on your aorta and end up decreasing your blood supply. It's why you're told not to lie on your back by the midwife. Your body will make your feel nauseous/dizzy/hot or any combination of those things to make you move. Clever eh. If this happens, I'll return you to a side-lying position, this fixes the problem every time.
I'M A BIT ON THE LARGER SIDE, IS THAT OK?
That is not a problem at all. It makes no difference to me how big, small, tall or short you are. Please be aware that my couch has a safe working weight of 22 stone or 140 kg.
PARKING IS A BIT TRICKY NEAR ME. IS THAT A PROBLEM?
It might be. I do need to be able to park relatively close to your home, I carry lots of kit around with me and do need to protect my back as much as possible. I drive to all my clients and am usually fully booked so I don't really have the time to drive around searching for parking. If you're able to get me a permit, please do so, or at least give me a heads up if parking is a bit tricky. I have had to cancel appointments in the past because I can't find parking. An occupational hazard I'm afraid.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A MASSAGE?
If you have a chronic pain issue you'd like to address, I usually suggest weekly for a month, fortnightly for a month and then monthly for maintenance. This allows us to get on top of the problem then decrease the frequency to maintain the results. The sweet spot for most clients is 3-4 weeks apart, but it's completely up to you to decide.
WHAT IS CLINICAL MASSAGE? I'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE?
Clinical massage is relatively new concept in the UK. It combines lots of elements of different types of massage techniques like sports massage, deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and soft tissue release to provide you with the best possible outcome. You may need a few sessions, but bit by bit, we'll chip away at the pain that you've been feeling. I may give you some advice on stretches or strengthening exercises to help you on your journey as well.
DO I NEED TO WEAR A MASK?
Mask wearing is entirely your choice. I wear a mask with all clients, so you can have the choice.
WHAT AREAS DO YOU COVER?
I cover all SE London post codes with the exception of SE1. I also cover North Kent, if you're not sure if I cover your area, please contact me and I'll let you know. Please keep this in mind when buying gift vouchers as well.
CAN I CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE MY BOOKING ONLINE?
If you open an account and book through that, it will give you the ability to change, reschedule or cancel your booking, just look for the icon of a person and click that to register. Alternatively, just send me an email or text if you need to make changes and I can do that for you.
