I've never had a massage before. What should I expect?

Firstly congrats on finally looking to book in a massage.   Your life is about to change!!

Here's a few things to put your mind at ease.  You will be expected to undress to your pants for the massage.  Full privacy will be given while you get undressed and on to the table.  You'll always be covered with a blanket, with only the body part being massaged, undraped.  You should never feel vulnerable or exposed.  If you do, please let me know and I'll adjust the blankets so you no longer feel that way.

How often should I get a massage?

If you have chronic or long-term pain that you'd like to address, I strongly recommend weekly treatments for a month, fortnightly for a month and then once a month of maintenance or as close to that schedule as you can.

This allows us sufficient time to get on top of the problem, then decreasing the frequency to maintain the results.  The sweet spot for maintenance massages are 3-4 weeks apart, but its completely up to you to decide.

Unless you are pregnant or would like a reflexology treatment, please book a Blissful Break.  The Blissful Break encompasses all of the techniques we've been trained in.  We will have a brief consultation when you arrive and from there we tailor your massage to you.  We don't do cookie cutter massage mainly because you're not a cookie. You're an individual with individual needs.

That said, please ensure you complete your consultation form that is sent with your confirmation email prior to arriving.

When can I have a pregnancy massage or reflexology?

Contrary to popular belief, you can have a pregnancy massage throughout your entire pregnancy even if you're overdue.  You CAN have a massage in your first trimester, although if you have a history of miscarriage, I would suggest you wait until your 12 week scan for your own peace of mind.

You can have a post natal massage as soon as you're ready if you've had a vaginal birth.  If you have had a c-section, please wait until your stitches are fully healed and you are comfortable laying on your tummy.  Usually at least 6 weeks post birth.

Why do I feel sick when I have a pregnancy massage?

First and foremost, this doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.  Our bodies are very clever things.  You will be sat up, reclining at the end of your massage.

Sometimes if your aren't positioned upright enough the baby may press on your vena cava (a major vein that carries blood to your heart) and end up decreasing your blood flow.  It's why you're told not to lie on your back by the midwife.  Its called supine hypotension.

Your body will make you feel nauseous/dizzy/hot or any combination of those things to make you move.  Clever eh!  If this happens, I'll return you to a side lying position, this fixes the problem every time.

What's your cancellation policy?

Cancellation Policy:  I understand life happens and sometimes you need to cancel your appointment last minute, you get sick, your kids get sick, you have to attend a meeting etc.  
 
I'm sure you understand that while these things do happen, we do need to protect our income and we can't always fill appointments last minute.  We will invoice you if you have not prepaid your treatment.
 
Cancellations within 48 hours will be charged 50% of the session fee.  
Cancellations within 24 hours will be charged the full session fee.

Where are you located and how do I find you?

Blissful Thinking is located inside Ladywell Works, 15 Whitburn Road, SE13 7UQ.

There are numerous buses that stop near Lewisham Fire Station or the Ladywell PlayTower.  You're about a 5 minute walk from either of those points.

Ladywell Station is about a 7 minute walk and Lewisham Station is about 15 minutes away.

If you can find the Longdan asian supermarket (go in after, there's foodie treasures to be had), you're a 2 minute walk away.  Just turn down Whitburn road and look for the black gates with the  Ladywell Works sign on it.  Walk down the short driveway, through the big glass doors and call or text your therapist to come and collect you.

I can get reimbursed for my treatment from work.  Can you give me a receipt?

Yes.  I'm happy to provide a 'paid invoice' that includes your name, address, my professional association number etc.  Just let me know what it needs to include and I'll include it.

How do I choose my favourite therapist?

Once you have selected your treatment, use the filter at the top of the following page to select your therapist.  Their specific availability will be shown.  If you have selected a treatment and no filter is shown, this means only one therapist offers it and you'll be booked in with them automatically.

Why didn't I receive a confirmation email when I booked in?

Sometimes the confirmation emails go to your spam inbox.  Please check there as well as your regular email.  If the confirmation email is not in either of those places, you are probably not booked in. Please try to rebook yourself in or text me to check what's going on.

How do I pay?

You can pay prior to your appointment, so you can leave in a dreamy state without thinking about paying. Or, you can pay on the day with cash or via bank transfer or I have a card reader for your convenience.

I'm a bit on the larger side, is that ok?

That is no problem at all.  It makes no difference how big, small, tall or short you are.  Please be aware that my massage couch has a safe working weight of 22 stone or 140kg.

How do I get the discount if I refer someone?

How it works:

You'll need an account to access your personalised referral code.

If you don't have an account yet, go to the website and make one.

On your phone click the 'Refer Friends' button on the menu or if you're on your laptop, go the 'More' tab and then hit 'Refer Friends'.  It will prompt you to log in and you can access your referral link there.

I'd suggest you keep your referral link handy in your notes on your phone so you have it when you need it.

The discount can be used with any therapist.

Parking Info

There is pay and display parking on Whitburn Road, Wearside Road and across the main road on Courthill Road.  Parking is free on Sundays and bank holidays and after 7pm during the week.

Please note, if your treatment is on a Sunday, there are two churches nearby and parking can get a bit sticky in the morning and early afternoon so just bear that in mind if you're driving.
